This 330-card standard-size set was O-Pee-Chee's largest issue since 1984-85. The fronts featured color action photos with "blue ice" borders and player name and team logo at the lower right-hand corner. Solid blue borders appeared at the top and bottom on the card face. Bilingual backs were tinted red with black lettering and provided career and playoff statistics as well as highlights. The team cards in the set (298-318) were actually action scenes with no players explicitly identified. This set was produced in mass quantity as O-Pee-Chee gave dealers the option to order vending cases following the initial printing. A second printing allowed for these orders to be filled, saturating the market. Most dealers believe that this O-Pee-Chee set was produced in an amount much greater than the Topps production of this year. One complete sheet of 1989-90 O-Pee-Chee cards was printed on white back "test" card stock produced by paper supplier Tembec. Tembec became the new supplier for O-Pee-Chee cards the following year. A much scarcer version of 132-cards in the set were created and can be identified by the bright, almost white, card stock on the backs compared to the more gray color used in the standard printing. It is commonly thought that roughly 100 copies of each of the cards were issued on this white stock. Read Less »
