Set Description:
At 640 cards, this is the largest 20th Century tobacco-issued baseball series, and it presents a formidable challenge to the collector. Each card measures 1 1/2" by 2 5/8". Eight minor leagues are each represented by a specific numbered series indicated on the reverse of each card. Each player's name and team are printed in black within the bottom white picture area. The list below is ordered alphabetically by player's name within team within series. Series 1 (South Atlantic League) teams are Augusta (1-13), Columbia (14-26), Columbus (27-39), Jacksonville (40-51), Macon (52-63) and Savannah (64-75). Series 2 (Virginia League) teams are Danville (76-88), Lynchburg (89-105), Norfolk (106-117), Portsmouth (118-132), Richmond (133-151), and Roanoke (152-162). Series 3 (Texas League) teams are Dallas (163-181), Ft. Worth (182-197), Galveston (198-204), Houston (205-216), Oklahoma City (217-221), San Antonio (222-230), Shreveport (231-243) and Waco (244-257). Series 4 (Virginia Valley League) teams are Charleston (258-272), Huntington (273-285), Montgomery (286-296) and Mt. Pleasant (297-306). Series 5 (Carolina Association) teams are Anderson (307-320), Charlotte (321-335), Greensboro (336-348), Greenville (349-364), Spartanburg (365-379) and Winston-Salem (380-393). Series 6 (Blue Grass League) teams are Frankfort (394-401), Lexington (402-414), Maysville (415-422), Paris (423-433), Richmond (434-443), Shelbyville (444-446) and Winchester (447-459). Series 7 (Eastern Carolina League) teams are Fayetteville (460-468), Goldsboro (469-490), Raleigh (491-504), Rocky Mount (505-519), Wilmington (520) and Wilson (521-526). Series 8 (Southern Association) teams are Atlanta (527-539), Birmingham (540-556), Chattanooga (557-566), Memphis (567-580), Mobile (581-592), Montgomery (593-608), Nashville (609-625) and New Orleans (626-640). The two key cards in the set are Casey Stengel and Joe Jackson.
