The 1951 Topps Magic football set was Topps' second major college football issue and featured 75 different players. The cards measure approximately 2 1/16" by 2 15/16" and were produced with a perforated edge along the bottom. Two different distinct perforation configurations have been found - one with a very tight pattern of dimples and the other with the dimples roughly 3/16" apart. The tight pattern version are usually found slightly diamond cut. Despite the perforation, the cards were issued as single cards and not as pairs in 1951. The fronts contain color portraits with the player's name, position and team nickname in a black box at the bottom. The backs contain a brief write-up, a black and white photo of the player's college or university within a 'scratch-off" section (unscratched cards still show the silver substance) which gives the answer to a football quiz. Cards with the scratch-off back intact are valued at 50 percent more than the prices listed below. Rookie Cards in this set include Marion Campbell, Vic Janowicz, Babe Parilli, Bert Rechichar, Bill Wade and George Young.
