The first of four sets from Impel (and SkyBox as they later became), Series I features illustrated fronts with a white border, and backs with statistics, character information, and factoids, plus an extra head-shot of each hero or villain. The base set contains the following subsets: Super Heroes, Super-Villains, Rookies, Famous Battles, M.V.C. (Most Valuable Comics), Team Pictures, and Spider-Man Presents, which is a subset where Spider-Man and other characters tell jokes. The artwork is uncredited and no one signed their names or initialed their work, except for Arthur Adams. The subset M.V.C. features comic covers and those artists are credited.
