Set Description from Beckett Database
The 1998 Sports Illustrated set (created by Fleer) was issued in one series totalling 200 cards and was distributed in six-card packs with a suggested retail price of $1.99. The cards feature exclusive Sports Illustrated photography and commentary. The set contains the topical subsets: Baseball's Best (129-148), One to Watch (149-176/201), and 97 in Review (177-200). A Travis Lee One to Watch subset card (number 201) was inserted into the product just before going to press. Though official numbers were never released, it appears the card was seeded into approximately one in every four boxes, making it about two times tougher to pull than any of the other regular issue cards. Notable Rookie Cards include Magglio Ordonez. Also, a 3 1/2" by 5" Alex Rodriguez bonus card was randomly inserted one in every six packs displaying an action color player photo with the complete Sports Illustrated checklisted printed on the card. In addition a promotional card featuring Alex Rodriguez was distributed to dealers and hobby media severla weeks prior to the products release. The "Promotional Sample" text running diagonally across the front and back of the card makes it easy to distinguish. Read Less »
